HISTORIC HARMONY: Methodist High School, Ikenegbu, Choir Triumphs at Maiden Angelle’s Voices Competition
By The Rev. Onyemaechi Charles Uruakpa Media Officer, Methodist News, M.C.N, Owerri Diocese
April 19, 2025 — History was composed in harmony and sung with grace as the OC Nwana Foundation, in collaboration with the Methodist Church Nigeria Diocese of Owerri, hosted the maiden edition of the Angelle’s Voices Christian Choir Competition yesterday at the iconic Wesley Methodist Church, Ikenegbu, Owerri.
The atmosphere was electric, the melodies divine, and the competition fierce. At the crescendo of it all, the award-winning Methodist High School Choir, Ikenegbu, already renowned for musical excellence, clinched the coveted first prize, emerging victorious in what has now become a landmark event in the spiritual and musical life of the Diocese.
Their performance, hailed by attendees as heavenly and technically flawless, edged out Christ (Anglican) Church, Owerri and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Owerri, who secured the second and third positions respectively. Each choir delivered spirit-lifting renditions that resonated with inspiration and devotion.
The event, dedicated to the cherished memory of the late Angelle Amara Nwana-Richard, featured a soul-stirring tribute by the Angelle’s Voices Ensemble, led by Dr. Mrs. Ijeoma Nwana K. E. and Dr. Mrs. Nene Nwana. The performance was both poignant and powerful, especially with the presence of the graceful Lady Prof. Mrs. Olu Nwana, the nonagenarian matriarch of the Nwana family, whose poise added depth to the occasion.

Unsung Heroes of Harmony
Judges Earn Acclaim for Masterful Stewardship
A panel of seasoned judges, whose names remain discreetly veiled behind the curtain of anonymity, rose to the occasion with a masterclass in adjudication. Tasked with evaluating a competition that seamlessly married faith, culture, and youthful talent, their discernment struck a delicate balance between technical precision and heartfelt artistry. Attendees marveled at their ability to parse intricate harmonies, dynamic control, and emotive delivery, with one guest remarking, “Their verdicts felt divinely guided.” Though their identities were unsung, their impact resonated loudly, as their unanimous decision to crown Methodist High School underscored their “keen ear for excellence,” as described by event organizers. Their stewardship not only upheld the competition’s integrity but also elevated it into a celebration of sacred music’s unifying power.
